Bandits Bounce Back on Thanksgiving Weekend
The Bandits got a much needed win on Saturday night after going 0-2 the prior weekend. The Metcalfe Jets came for their first ever visit to the Ray Friel and left having lost 6-3 after a very well played game by both sides
Aiden Cannell opened the scoring on a nice pass from Billy Denham in the first period but the Jets would quickly tie it up and then take a 2-1 lead into the second period. Ryan Lafranchise tied it in the second for the Bandits when he took a beautiful feed from Marc Bertrand which sent him on a breakaway. Both teams then exchanged another goal each to head into the third period all tied at three.
In the third period both teams exchanged chances but were stopped by both goaltenders with some great saves. The game remained tied until Gabriel Cuillerier (who had just missed but inches at the end of the second) made the score 4-3 in favor of the Bandits. This would turn out to be the winning goal. The Bandits added two more goals in the period one by Andrew Oliveira and an empty netter by Samuel Gaudet.
“This was a good win for us. I thought we played the entire 60 minutes and did not get down on ourselves when Metcalfe turned up the heat” said Bandits Head Coach Dale Murdoch. The Bandits now have a record of 3-2 in the very tight early season in the NCJHL.
The Bandits next face the very fast Vankleek Hill Cougars on Saturday October 14th at 7:30 from the Ray Friel Centre. “We will have to practice hard this week and work on a few things if we are to hope to come out on top over Vankleek Hill” added Bandits captain Marty Forget.
